Warsaw City Centre Development

FRESH organised her 2nd FRESH International Challenge from November 24th 2008 until November 30th 2008.

The goal of the FRESH International Challenge is to confront students with problems that internationally oriented companies encounter when they develop projects. The means by which this is done is a multidisciplinary case, that had to be solved in Warsaw, Poland. FRESH gave the opportunity to work on a redevelopment case of the Warsaw centre project to 25 students with different study backgrounds.

The FRESH International Challenge 2008 was a big success!

The International Challenge 2008, which consisted of the International Day, International Challenge and the Presentation Day, has been very succesful!

International Day

The International Day (November 13th Kempen & Co, Amsterdam)
The International Day took place on November 13th at Kempen & Co in Amsterdam. On this day the 4 multidisciplinary teams, that were going to work on the case, were introduced and there was a case introduction. In the afternoon introductory presentations were held by professionals from our sponsors Royal Haskoning and Brink Groep and the Polish architect Gosia Wolak. These presentations were to inform the students about different aspects of the case, the development of a masterplan for the city centre of Warsaw. We ended the day with an informal drink at the Blauwe Engel.

International Challenge

The International Challenge (November 24th-30th Warsaw, Poland)
On the Mondayevening of November 24th the Warsaw adventure took off! Only a little bit later as planned the IC08 took off with the nighttrain on to Warsaw. The next day around 1 p.m. the train arrived at the Warsaw central trainstation.
The students spended five days abroad to work on the case, visit the site for which the case is designed and visit companies/projects to learn about the local business culture.

An incredible week with visits at Jones Lang LaSalle and ING Real Estate followed. During the day the groups worked on the case at the Regus offices.

At night there was time to get to know eachother and the Warsaw nightlife by having drinks, dancing and flirting with the polish!
This intensive programm ended with our departure to our, relatively warm, home country on Saturday November 29th.

Presentation Day

The Presentation Day (December 4th ASRE, Amsterdam)
The presentation day was held at the Amsterdam School of Real Estate in Amsterdam. A small diner was included where after the solutions of the groups were to be presented to a professional jury. The good combination of working and leisuring in Warsaw paid off. The 4 teams were able to present the professional jury with impressive results.

The jury consisted of 6 members, representing the sponsors Redevco, Royal Haskoning and Brink Groep, and the architect Gosia Wolak, Francine Zijlstra and Arjen Knoester. The investment proposal and masterplan of the team ‘ Urban Spectrum’ was chosen as the winning proposal.

The winners will be given the opportunity to write an article that will be submitted to a real estate magazine. The IC08 concluded with an informal drink at cafe De Zwijger.
